The first step of a sophisticated drainage system consists of the sterile
placement of the drain. Due to its special design,
the DRAINTEC® -spear
used appropriately ensures that there is absolutely no risk of contamination.
The spear is an integral component both of the wound drainage system and the
refusion system and affords drainage without any disconnection of parts:
- At the blunt end, a disposable guiding tube is slipped over the
guiding rod and under the cuff until the end of the cuff
impedes any further advance. Thus the tip of the guiding tube
is protected while the device penetrates the skin, and remains
free of contamination.
- Under vision the DRAINTEC®
spear with guiding tube is advanced through muscle, subcutis, and cutis
proceeding from inside to outside.
- The DRAINTEC®
spear is removed from the guiding tube. At a later time, the device can be
re-processed and re-used.
- The drain is inserted into the external end of the guiding tube and
advanced to the site of the wound. This procedure assures that
there is no risk of contamination.
- The guiding tube is withdrawn from the site of the wound along
the drain, then opened at the strip, pulled from the drainage tube,
